Men’s Watches – Basic Information about Luxury Timepieces

Storing a Luxury Watch

If you own a diamond watch or a watch made of gold, then you need to make sure that you store it properly and understand its basic operation. For example, you should store watches made of gold, diamonds or gems in pouches made with a soft cloth.

Keep the Metal Safe from Any Scratch Marks

Place the timepiece either in its original box or in a jewelry box that is designed with separate compartments. That way, you can keep the metal safe from any scratches that may occur.

The Swiss Timepiece

One of the universally accepted designations of a luxury timepiece is the Swiss watch, which is distinguished for its high quality. According to the Swiss watch industry, the following standards must be met in order for a watch to be classified as “Swiss”:

  • The watch must have a Swiss movement – the movement being the intricate workings of the watch itself. The parts that constitute the movement must be comprised of 50% of the timepiece’s worth.
  • The watch must originate in Switzerland and be a product of the country. Swiss watch stamps may read “Suisse,” “Produit Suisse,” “Swiss Made,” or “Swiss Quartz.”  Both the case and movement must be made in Switzerland under the watch factory’s exacting standards.

Swiss Watch Inscriptions – What to Note

If the watch’s case is not made in Switzerland, then the above-mentioned inscriptions will be hidden by the casing. Or, the case may read “Swiss Movement,” to show that the movement is Swiss in origin. If the watch’s movement is not Swiss in origin but the case was made in Switzerland, then the words, “Swiss Case,” will appear on the outside of the timepiece.

The “Geneva” Designation

If you see a luxury watch with the designation, “Geneve,” then it means the watch was made in Geneva, Switzerland – an even more precise designation of quality.

Mechanical and Quartz Watches

Luxury watches as well as standard watches may be made with quartz or mechanical movements. Finely made, customized watches are produced by hand while quart movements are made with current technologies.

How a Quartz Watch Works

A quartz watch features a tiny crystal that vibrates precisely and predictably. While the timepiece is efficient, it also has lost some of the elegance. Quartz watches, which are not frequently produced, were first introduced by Seiko in 1969. At that time, they ran around $1,000 in price – a far cry from today’s more affordable quartz designs.

A Practical Piece of Jewelry

And, you are always looking to buy your wardrobe and other items on clearance or at discount stores whether in your locale or even online. Well, a great tip is even though you may have a suit or dress on that you got on sale, a fabulous way to draw people away from your outfit is by wearing a really eye catching piece of jewelry.

Whether it be a diamond necklace or even maybe a Presidential Rolex watch, or lets just say a really nice, sharp watch that catches a persons eye. Your inexpensive suit our dress you picked up at the local Goodwill will be overlooked due to the fact that the person or persons will be captivated by the fine jewelry product you’re wearing.

Conversely, the items mentioned above are actually quite expensive and contradict the opening statement in our article. Some of the costume jewelry made now-a-days is quite amazing and really in all honesty quite hard to distinguish between the real McCoy. In example, Cubic Zirconia has truly come a long way.
